    Responsibility for delivering all capital projects and programmes across the EDF Energy coal fleet. The purpose of this role was to bring greater professional standards to EDF Energy’s project management process and to improve certainty of outcome from the projects. During this period I have:• Selected and built a team of 33 project managers, planners and engineers to deliver a project portfolio of circa £80m per annum. These were a mixture of full time internal staff and temporary agency staff. • Defined, designed and managed the governance processes by which oversight and control of the team’s activities can be achieved. • Defined and managed the project reporting processes focusing on safety, quality, progress to program, spend and risk. • Negotiated and managed contracts and contractual relationships with the key suppliers• Carried out a troubleshooter role when issues have arisen, both within my team’s projects and within other areas of the business. Most recent role was Event Recovery Manager/Outage Manager for West Burton 2014 outage season when a series of events required significant intervention.

This was the first system to in the world to be operationally proven to dispose of this material in a conventional boiler. The system will provide Cottam with a potential income stream of up to £2m per annum with a capital cost of approximately £20k and operational costs of less than £30k per annum.

Progression of commercially important engineering projects to a successful conclusion and accountability for the management of a number of contracts and budgets with combined values of £295k in addition to outage budgets of £280k. Achievements included:• Successfully engineered the in situ repair of a failed High Pressure (HP) heater initially cost estimated by Original Equipment Manufacturer in excess of £300k and 6 months down time. Project was successfully completed within 5 months at 60% less than projected cost. • Temporarily promoted to Team Leader managing the step change of workforce size reduction, making commercially based decisions and having accountability for the team whilst gaining exposure to management issues.• Evolved an innovative in-situ HP heater spark erosion system for removal of section drain cracking at a cost of £14k per unit taking 2 weeks, as opposed to cheapest alternative mechanical methods costing in excess of £400k with a minimum down time of 12 weeks. • Co-ordinated and managed four major unit outages using largely in house resources with budgets totalling £280k each.

Recommendations adopted, resulted in annual savings of approximately £1m.
