After being made redundant In November 2012 after 32 years working for Derry Paper & Book Conservation Ltd, I set up Sycamore Bookbinding, Restoration & Paper Conservation Limited.While at Derry, I was Project Manager for various restoration and bespoke limted edition hand bound book runs from inception to completion, liaising with clients and also working as a craftsman on each project.

Along with organising and running the administration side of my new company, I continue to work on the bench restoring and rebinding books for a variety of libraries, institutions, archives, private collectors and publishers here in the UK, Channel Islands and Japan.I gain great satisfaction and pride from the work that we carry out at Sycamore and all of us are very humbled by the comments and appreciation offered by clients when their books, maps, manuscripts etc are returned to them.We are very excited about the launch of "Beyond Albums" a part of Sycamore Bookbinding during 2017. Beyond Albums will offer genuine, hand made, leather bound, bespoke photograph albums for any occasion (Weddings, Engagements, Proms, Holidays, Christenings, Corporate Events, Guest Books, Visitor Books and many more).Every fold of paper and stitch will be by hand, genuine leather skins are used to make each album unique (unlike most album makers who use bonded or reconstituted leather) archival materials and each album can be personalised to your own specification. Began working for Derry straight from school as their last time served apprentice hand bookbinder.Became deputy forman, forman and then Binding/Conservation Project Manager.My roles included meeting clients either at Derry or at the libraries, archives or private homes where their books, maps and manuscripts were housed.Quoting, quality control, organising staff with day to day work schedules, overseeing special project work and above all continuing to bind and restore the books that were in my care.
