Summit International School is an American curriculum school located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Summit was founded in 2013 and has grown into a full K-12 during that time. The school offers standardized testing through MAP, college readiness exams through the SAT, and a pathway to an American high school diploma upon the satisfaction graduation requirements at the end of twelfth grade.I joined Summit International School in August 2020 upon completion of my postgraduate studies. Initially hired as a middle school English teacher, I found my subject teaching expanding into Social Studies and research during my tenure there. During my second year I also became involved in building the high school English curriculum as it opened, helped with decisions regarding textbook and software purchasing for my subjects, and sat in on weekly leadership meetings with administration. During these two years I was also involved in the behavioral committee with other members of staff. In terms of extracurricular activities, I was involved in the initial establish of our Student Council and also spearheaded the creation of our first student newspaper.

In my third year at SHSID I was happy to become the Vice Head of Eighth Grade. I work in close co-ordination with the Chinese Heads of Grade, Directors, and Foreign Affairs Office on a daily basis. I act as a liaison and point-of-contact between eighth grade teachers and Chinese staff and leaders. The Subject Heads are in charge of the academic side of the grade and I look after students and faculty alike. While in this role I also maintain a full teaching schedule. This year I am focused on our English program and I am the group leader for the accelerated honors and honors grade levels.

SHSID is a premier educational, and fully AdvancED accredited, establishment in Shanghai. Our students learn through a tandem curriculum of Mandarin Chinese and English. In the International Division we work in in close co-ordination with our local division, Shanghai High School, which has produced alumni who are at the forefront of Chinese government, business and technology. In the International Division we have over 2,500 students from over 50 countries. In our multi-cultural environment it is our goal to provide our students with a global perspective on education. We were one of the first international schools established in the PRC and have been recognized by UNESCO as part of their Associated Schools Network. Our school also provides IB & AP programs as well as our campus being a test center for TOEFL, PSAT, SAT and ACT. SHSID also provides platforms for students to partake in many different sports and activities.During these years I was an English and History teacher. I was also a homeroom teacher for a sixth grade class. Being a homeroom teacher was not my original position but I stepped in to fill the space when another teacher left the school. I then taught primarily in the 6th and 8th grade. During my second year at the school I was entrusted to be a group leader for sixth grade history. This gave me experience in curriculum planning, unit and semester planning, test quality analysis, and horizontal and vertical alignment amongst other duties.I am currently managing the Under 15's boys football team. We compete on a Shanghai wide level in the Shanghai School Sports Association (SSSA) and have had great success. My players have consistently achieved good results winning numerous trophies and placing among the top teams in all the tournaments we have competed in.

My first teaching position in China was at York School of Foreign Languages in Fuzhou, Fujian. It was a great first step in China which I seized by beginning to learn Mandarin Chinese. York is a progressive school which takes pride in the innovative approach toward education which they apply and also in the professional skills which they provide to both students and customers on a daily basis. I worked on a daily basis teaching children English. I also partook in numerous one-on-one VIP lessons for high level students. While at York I was often entrusted with creating and participating in extra-cirricular activities for the students and I enjoyed being given a level of creative freedom in doing so. On top of daily work duties we also participated in local co-operative classes where we would visit local schools and teach to young learner. Around peak seasons and important school dates we also took part in marketing days in which we travelled to local schools to speak to students and parents to recuit new students to our school. I really enjoyed my time in York and I'm thankful for the opportunities that were provided.
