Vp Of TechnologySunshinemd Sep 2021 - PresentSunsineMD is a company I co-founded that helps pharmaceutical companies select better clinical investigators for the trials. We take a novel approach to combining public datasets (Open Payments, ClinicalTrials.org, and others) to create a database with a near census of US investigators, the studies they worked on and how well they performed (enrollment) on those studies.I managed the consultants who created our application, which was written on Salesforce Experience Cloud, and the backend ETL processes which were built in Alteryx and fed data to Snowflake and Salesforce. I serviced our smaller clients by importing our raw data to AWS S3 and querying that using AWS Glue and Athena.I co-authored two manuscripts with my partner, Harold Glass, which were published in industry journals. The papers were data heavy and required significantly complex SQL queries and correlation analysis.

Chief Technology OfficerIntellivets Jun 2021 - PresentPhiladelphia, Pa, UsIntellivets is a teleconsulting platform seeking to connect veterinary general practitioners and specialists to allow more efficient consultations for the pet parents. Intellivets got its start in the Behavior department at the University of Pennsylvania veterinary hospital.I managed the software development team at Intellivets and architected the main application. As a small team we ran a light agile process managed with a kanban board. The team was completely remote and worked on different timezones. The utilzed the following technology stack:Backend: AWS API Gateway, Lambda (Node with Express), Serverless RDSFrontend: NextJs deployed on AWS AmplifyInfrastructure written in AWS CDK -
Chief Technology Officer & Co-FounderTorchlight Technology Group (Acquired By Ihc Group) Nov 2009 - May 2021Torchlight Technology Group (TTG) was a company I co-founded and grew from the 3 founders to 40+ employees and then a successful exit to a public company. TTG specialized in digital marketing and lead generation for medicare and health insurance companies. At the center of the company there were three products: Data Pingtree, Call Pingtree and Faucet. The Pingtrees provided real time marketplaces for sales leads (data) and calls, and Faucet was a multi-channel (email, text, call) dynamic drip marketing machine, which helped turn prospects into leads. We deployed all our technology on AWS and utilized a myriad of their services (EC2, VPC, RDS, Elastic Beanstalk, Code Pipeline, Firehose, Redshift, API Gateway, and Lambda to name a few). Early on, our stack was LAMP based with CakePHP as the MVC framework. Eventually we refactored the frontends with ReactJS and migrated our PHP microservices to a serverless architecture with Node lambda functions. We had structured code release cycles and designated code branches to support out CI/CD pipelines. As CTO and Co-founder, I embraced the servant leader philosophy. I believe in promoting employees’ personal growth and the welfare of the team as paramount to a successful business and a great place to work. I conducted regular check-ins and quarterly reviews to give feedback regularly and to manage expectations. I was responsible for our tech personnel and for our processes; as the company grew from a startup to an established company, I implemented controls and processes to match the maturity of the company. From the outside we were a services company, but under the hood we were a technology company with half of the people in the company being under my purview.Torchlight Technology Group was an amazing ride full of triumphs and setbacks, but overall, an immense learning experience. Looking back at the 11 years we operated the company, I’m incredibly proud of the company we built and the people who helped build it.

Ceo & Co-FounderRidaroo Llc Jul 2010 - Mar 2013Philadelphia, Pa, UsRidaroo was a startup I co-founded and it was a ride-sharing app built for large employer networks and universities. It utilized the safety net provided by working for the same company to help people find convenient carpooling options. Mind you, we built this before Uber and Lyft had their peer-to-peer applications. The tech stack was LAMP based with CakePHP as the framework and deployed on AWS EC2s and (just released) RDS. I developed the entire application from ground up, managed all the release cycles and bug fixes, etc. One of the tech highlights was an algorithm to find the carpool matches close to your home and along your route. So it utilized Google Maps APIs including the driving route coordinates to find those people easy to pick up. This same algorithm was later used in a spinoff project called Deals On The Way, where we could show users group deals (Groupon, etc.) along any route they were taking (commute, road trip, etc.)Ridaroo attained some business success, but ultimately not enough to keep the company running (two corporate and two university clients). I am still very proud of the product we built and all the time and effort it took to get it to market. -
Director Of TechnologyBasecamp Business Jan 2007 - Mar 2011Basecamp Business was a startup which sought to build solutions for the entrepreneurial ecosystem. As one of the company's first employees I worked constantly with the owners and investors in shaping their vision of the company and distilling that into actual products. Our first product was a regional (Philadelphia) business calendar, which aggregated all the events by various organizations into one database, which could be filtered to a users' preferences. The calendar database was powered by a application which utilized Amazon Mechanical Turk to gather information from designated websites, and do quality assurance on collected data. I wrote that application with the LAMP stack on the CakePHP framework and deployed on AWS EC2. This MTurk application was a big improvement on the available webscraping tools and techniques of the time.

Computer Analyst IiNorthrop Grumman Mission Systems, Inc. 2003 - 2006Reston, Virginia, UsAs a Computer Analyst II for Northrup Grumman, I developed software for a large J2EE application in the defense intelligence space. I got experience working in all aspects of a CMMI Level 5 software development lifecycle, including architecting Java classes, writing Java code, writing and performing developer tests and participating in code reviews. I mostly wrote Java code for the data access layer (DAL), but also had projects utilizing the Java UI library Swing. The application was deployed in a unix (solaris) environment with an Oracle database, both of which I interacted with regularly. I mentored new developers and helped them up the DoD jargon learning curve. I continued to put my Vi skills to good use. -
Computer ScientistDepartment Of Navy Aug 2002 - Aug 2003Washington, Dc, UsI worked primarily for the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) program, were I gained in-depth knowledge of the UNIX command line (csh, ksh) and rewrote FORTRAN code into C++ classes. Additionally, I did rotations to other departments on base, where I learned Java and contributed to a Java Applet which facilitated real-time communication and collaboration between parties.Fun fact - My mentor told me to learn Vi to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome (hot topic in the early aughts). I readily learned the Vi basics, and still use it today!
