As the Chief Scientific Officer at RareCan, I lead a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about facilitating research into rare forms of cancer. I have over 30 years of experience as a Clinical Scientist at the Northern Cancer Research Institute at Newcastle University, where I studied rare cancers in children and obtained a PhD, FRCPath, and FRCP. I founded RareCan to bridge the gap between patients, researchers, and drug companies, and to remove the barriers and frustrations of obtaining the samples needed for reliable research. RareCan enables people affected by rare cancer to register their willingness to be contacted about research projects and clinical trials, and provides a platform for collaboration and innovation. I am driven by the desire to improve the outcomes and quality of life for the 70,000 people every year in the UK who are diagnosed with one of the nearly 200 forms of rare cancer.
