The voluntary program is returning low flows at selected dams and watercourse diversions across the eastern mount lofty ranges, requiring sensitive landholder engagement tactics to seek participating individuals and organisations. My role oversees two teams, one undertaking landholder engagement, another comprising construction managers and program support staff. The program is the first of its kind to occur at this scale, and requires a high level of innovation, such as developing novel design solutions to return low flows and; to encourage building market capacity in engineering and construction organisations undertaking the works. My role incorporates a degree of strategic thinking to navigate complex policy and political challenges and providing support to the Program Leader to manage a range of stakeholders within state government, federal government and other associated bodies. This role also utilises my scientific background to effectively communicate the evidence supporting the programs’ environmental objectives, including managing supporting scientific studies essential to delivering the program. A key achievement whilst in this role was the development and management of an $8M design and construction panel, requiring significant ongoing negotiations with contractors to gain value for money and ensure timely delivery of works.
