Senior Lecturer In Sport Nutrition And Exercise Metabolism
Research interests in human metabolism and exercise performance, with a particular focus on feeding strategies during prolonged exercise and the mechanisms behind the ergogenic benefits of carbohydrate and ketone metabolism in exercise performance. I head our endurance sport applied services including a cycling performance clinic with the aim of providing physiological and nutritional support to the whole range of cyclists and endurance athletes. I act as an exercise physiology consultant to Team KTM UK, a top level UK cycling team and work with the English Institute of Sport and British Triathlon in providing athlete monitoring and heat acclimation strategy support ahead of Tokyo 2020.I teach across all level of higher education. I run a Level 6 (3rd year) module in exercise nutrition with 120 students and have previously and successfully led our nutrition and biochemistry module at Level 4, achieving high scores for student satisfaction.

Project management in applied and research based exercise physiology. I worked on and ran projects in exercise metabolism, strategies to optimise endurance sport performance, and environmental physiology. I also worked with an interdisciplinary team including IT developers and programmers developing an educational app to demonstrate the metabolic demands and consequences of running. In this role I also continued to develop and lead our lab based applied consultancy work.
