Andy is first and foremost a husband, a dad and a friend. He’s also a GP and Associate Medical Director for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS, focused on Population Health and Health Inequities. He has a decade of experience on executive teams in the NHS. He co-founded and leads the Population Health Academy in LSC, which helps leaders to have time and space to reflect, to learn, to develop and confront their own ego structures so that they can become more authentic, connected, compassionate humans. It also helps them to develop an improvement approach to population health and tackling health inequity. He is an Associate at the Centre for Population Health and also at the King’s Fund, through which he works with ICB & other NHS organisations to develop compassionate leadership, cultures of joy and evidence-based approaches to improving population health. He teaches at both Lancaster (as an Honorary Senior Lecturer) and UCLAN medical schools in Sociology and Health. His work is embedded in the ‘art of hosting’ and has been hugely influenced by the poverty truth commission. He loves working with communities to understand their experiences and effect change, together with them. He has trained as a facilitator and an executive coach. Andy is part of the NHS Assembly and also advises political parties on health and care policy. He is a passionate communicator and has spoken at TEDxNHS (https://youtu.be/ZfIyXle2y1k). He writes a blog at www.reimagininghealth.com and will shortly publish his first book: ‘Sick Society: Reimagining How We Live Well Together’. He was recently awarded an MBE for services to Primary Care and tackling Health Inequalities in the King's Birthday Honours.
