As a director of youth ministry at a 3,600 member congregation for the last dozen years, it was my main task to gather people well, and I’m good at it. I excel at making events highly organized, unique, memorable, and fun. Large events that gather groups of 10s, 50s, and 100s of people are typical every week. I have managed the communication, setup, organization, leadership, and volunteer recruitment for all of these events. A youth director also becomes the de facto technology expert, setup specialist, point of contact for hospitality, and impromptu creative problem solver for every event. I’m an energetic person with insatiable desire to be involved in as much as I can and make each thing matter. Working evenings and weekends with my job, I’ve had the opportunity to coordinate hundreds of experiences for teenagers and adults from the planning, development, implementation, and review phase. Many of our experiences were offsite, in coordination with multiple organizations, often with camps, colleges, hotels, and other churches. People kept coming back to our events because they were expertly planned, worked with a variety of vendors, used creativity to enhance the experiences, and successful in navigating the inevitable changes that accompany large scale events. I’ve always excelled in the planning of these events, and the actualization of the dreams that our community has created. I also excel at recruiting, training, and empowering volunteer leaders to create the best event experience.Following several college internships, I left the field of parks and recreation to follow a ministry path and have been well rewarded with many memories and experiences that have built my managerial and organizational skills, technical competency, and allowed me to develop innovative ideas.
