Profile bio

About Andy Marcus

I serve as COO of General Risk Advisors, a Risk Management company founded by Ken Grant, which helps Multi-Manager and Multi-Strategy Hedge Funds quantify their risk in comprehensive and digestible terms. I also founded Advisor Hedge as an algorithmic system for finding turning points in the Stock Market (S&P 500 Index), based on repeating quantitative patterns. From a young age, I showed an advanced mathematical ability. I recall placing 4th in the statewide Pennsylvania Sixth Grade Math Test. This propelled me into advanced math classes from that point forward, including an opportunity to take classes at a local university my senior year, as I was ahead of my high school’s advanced Calculus track. Complementing this mathematical ability, my stockbroker father charted his stocks across our dining room table each night, and we had nightly discussions on my portfolio (he bought me my first stock when I was 5 years old). Put it all together and you have the perfect recipe to create someone obsessed with finding quantitative patterns in the stock market. At the University of Michigan, I began as a Math major, passing my first Actuarial exam with a 9/10 score my freshman year. My professors were excited. I was flown around for actuarial interviews that Spring, but decided to pursue dual concentrations in Finance and Computer Information Systems from the Business School instead. I worked as a software consultant for a few years at PricewaterhouseCoopers after graduating, and went on to get a Masters in Statistics at Columbia University in New York City.I am proud of how well I did at Columbia, working independently and researching stock market algorithms over the summer. Hours after graduation, I was hired by privately-held C&C Trading LLC in Manhattan. There I learned all about trading statistical arbitrage using algorithms. I also gained keen insight into the behavior of successful traders. A few years into managing the software and analytics at C&C Trading, one of my research projects yielded significant results, and I was promoted to Quantitative Trader. The opportunity I uncovered ended up being a consistent and lucrative inefficiency in the markets for years. In early 2020, after developing four separate S&P timing systems that were 'pretty good,' I had a transformative idea that changed my entire trajectory. What if I stayed Long until all four of my ‘pretty good’ systems said it was time to Sell, and vice versa? That was the genesis of my current Long Only S&P System that beat the S&P itself by 25% in 2022.

Listed skills include Trading, Trading Systems, Equities, Hedging, and 46 others.
