Spurn National Nature Reserve,L United Kingdom

Responsible for education, events and public engagement at Spurn National Nature Reserve. I run our schools programme and manage our engagement programmes at Spurn. Other duties include managing staff, trainees and volunteers in helping to deliver activities that inspire people about wildlife conservation and environmental issues. I manage the running and maintenance of the iconic Spurn Lighthouse and have overview of appropriate interpretation on the site. I managed and delivered the Heritage Lottery funded restoration of Spurn Lighthouse. The project also established a new site interpretation arrangement and resulted in the Spurn Storyboard and a programme of community and education engagement. We developed our volunteer base at Spurn and created multiple roles to help us manage the reserve and open facilities for visitors. The Spurn Safari brand was established as part of the Communities along the Sand Project and this 3 hour guided tour along Spurn is a model for other activities. The Safari is aboard a 6.5 tonne Ex-army Unimog.

I worked as a classroom teacher in years 5 and 6 with responsibility for STEM, environment and sustainability projects in school. We attained Eco-school status for 8 years running and I helped develop the school grounds into an environmental learning outdoor classroom.

To manage conservation projects and nature reserves in South Holderness.

As Farm Development Manager, I was responsible for carrying out practical planning and delivery of a number of projects aimed at increasing the assets of the farm. Over 2000 trees were planted on the site alongside 400m of footpath, greenhouses, fencing and livestock housing. The facilities were improved so that the farm could welcome more school groups and visitors. Part of my role involved working with volunteers and people with special needs helping on the farm.

Tophill Low Nature Reserve

I was employed on a one year contract to develop the nature reserve at Yorkshire Water's Tophill Low Treatment works. The role involved developing a management plan, volunteer group and working with stakeholders to develop the reserve into a better place for wildlife and to encourage education, interpretation and engagement opportunities. During my time we doubled the number of hides and wetland areas whilst developing a visitor centre and management regime.
