Biologist with consulting company for large scale construction projects within the Central Valley and coast, to uphold environmental compliance. Sites required extensive pre-construction, post construction surveys for target species as well as monitoring construction in undisturbed areas. Target species including San Joaquin Kit Fox (SJKF), American Badger (AMBA), Giant Kangaroo Rat, California Tiger Salamander (CTS), California Red-legged Frog (CRLF), Western Spadefoot toad, Legless lizard, Burrowing Owl (BUOW), and nesting birds. Confident in detecting signs of target species by frequent surveys performed throughout the construction process. Assisted Designated Biologists on numerous SJKF trappings, performed numerous days of both day and night radio telemetry monitoring SJKF activity in close proximity to construction activities. Utilized wildlife cameras to assess den utilization and species abundance. Excavated potential CTS, SJKF, BUOW dens to ensure no target species were within work areas. Performed CTS and CRLF surveys within potential breeding habitats. Engaged in small mammal trapping, avian fatality surveys, avian point counts, identify potential SJKF and AMBA dens within high voltage areas, sheep grazing monitoring and vegetation health assessment. Monitored construction and ensure companies meet environmental compliance requirements as pertaining to the county and federal conditions of approval. Gained rattlesnake handling experience. Conducted botanical surveys and rare plant surveys. Conducted stream monitoring and sampling. Regularly worked with an ISA Certified Arborist. Conducted tree assessments at multiple sites. Gained field experience describing wetland hydrology indicators.

Facilitated and conducted ornithological studies in compliance with U.S. Forest Service survey protocol. Targeted species surveyed included: spotted owl (Strix occidentalis), goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), and black-backed woodpecker (Picoides arcticus). Also conducted vegetation surveys to assess habitat utilization by woodpecker species in the Sierra mountain range. Effectively managed and coordinated a team of volunteers in the implementation of the monitoring protocol for habitat and targeted species.

Implemented a monitoring plan for the Bureau of Land Management’s designated recreation and special use areas bordering the city. Surveyed lands which had experienced wildfires within the last three years to assess vegetation recovery, including the recovery of government seeded species. Characterized vegetation using the Assessment, Inventory and Monitoring (AIM) Protocol and the Interpreting Indicators of Rangeland Health (IIRH) Technical Guide. Learned to identify a wide range of herbaceous species and using the dichotomous key to identify unknown species. Entered data and QA/QC for collected data using the Database for Inventory, Monitoring and Assessment (DIMA). Developed year-end monitoring summaries to be submitted to the Department of Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation to identify treatment locations.

Qualified as a Type II firefighter and filled positions on local fire engines as needed during peak fire season. Responsibilities included wildland fire prevention and emergency response operations, including: ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, and monitoring.

Implemented maintenance and preservation plan for preserved lands within the Fairfield Osborn Preserve. Responsibilities included on-going maintenance of grounds, trails, utility vehicles, and buildings using hand and power tools. Recruited and managed all volunteer stewards. Educated and lead volunteer stewards for activities such as education and outreach and grounds maintenance and invasive species removal programs. Highly experienced managing various urgent, emergency situations on the preserve as well as working under pressure, problem-solving, and implementing emergency protocol.
