Manager of facilities development for a 12,000 bpod (2.8 SOR) SAGD initial development on Marathon’s Birchwood oil sands property (100%). Dual reporting to Business Unit and Corporate Upstream Development. Provide technical and commercial input to options review, which included disposal, partnering and various size, technology, execution means and pace of development, during the asset’s Select Phase. Developed a contracting strategy that focused on Upstream Development principles of being Safe, Predictable and Competitive while considering Birchwood would be a first for Marathon in various areas including InSitu development and operated property in Canada. Leveraging Marathon existing expertise and position of full ownership. Built team from corporate headquarters and Calgary consultants to complete select phase activities (DBM, contracting strategy and facilities input into regulation application) and prepare for definition phase activities.

Period highlighted by strategic review of Sunrise Oil Sands facilities development, completion of Front-end Engineering Design (FEED) for Phase 1, strategic planning for future phases, and development of “game changer” execution model.

Career highlighted by increasingly responsible global project leadership roles to include all aspects of project development.Career highlights include: Project Manager/Coordination Manager Lead a challenging gas strategy assessment to monetize gas from the newly acquired Alba field in Equatorial Guinea, Africa. Selected LNG technology and successfully conducted a front end engineering design (FEED) for a 3.72 million ton per year plant to include site selection, capacity review, integration with upstream components and reliability studies. Collaborated with business development group to ensure contractual commitments were aligned in regards to quantity and quality of gas. Project Manager Chosen to design and construct a $50 MM demonstration plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma based on Syntroleum’s Gas to Liquid (GTL) technology. Led a specialist technical team in the evaluation and cost estimating of opportunities for commercialization. Chief Engineer/Project Manager Challenged to lead the conversion of an Arctic bottom-founded exploration drilling rig to an oil and gas platform for offshore Sakhalin Island, Russia. Planned and executed the hookup, commissioning and startup of the modified facility offshore Russia. Completed project on schedule, despite several unique challenges. Assigned project manager role during the latter stages of implementation. Development comprised reserves of one billion barrels of oil and 14 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Engineering Supervisor/Production Superintendent Managed a multidisciplinary team in the hookup, commissioning and startup of East Brae (North Sea United Kingdom) oil/gas production platform. Guided the development of project scope and specifications. Monitored the contractor’s process engineering group and coordinated company process engineering activities. Assigned responsibility for a team operating the production platform generating 85,000 bopd and 660 mmscfpd.
