This past summer of 2024, I was lucky enough to fill in for a summer as a dental assistant at Nunn Family Dentistry. I was trained for two weeks in May after I returned from college, and then I was on my own. It was my responsibility to take care of my operating room where Dr. Martin A Nunn would administer care to his patients. In addition, I was responsible for helping with sterilization, writing certain patient notes, and becoming familiar with the dental office flow. I assisted on an average of 5 procedures each day. Such procedures include: fillings, implants, crowns, extractions, root canals, and dentures. In a fast-paced environment, I learned great time management skills and how to perform under pressure. Another skill that I obtained was learning how to design and create a CEREC crown for patients using 3d imaging and CAD scan technology. This experience was truly a great way for me to understand the day-to-day of a dental office and how to properly interact and treat a patient who needs care.

Time to Rise is a month-long summer camp for at-risk youth in Davidson County, Nashville, TN. The goal of Time to Rise is to give these youth a chance to take classes at my high school, go on field trips, and to provide two meals for them each day. The program that I worked with was geared specifically for boys in grades 4-6. This past summer of 2024 was my fourth and final year as a counselor for Time to Rise. As a counselor, I was responsible for a group of 8 boys each day. I would take them to classes, games, and meals. While in class, I was tasked with running certain activities and helping each teacher run the class. In addition, I rode the bus in the afternoon each day to the drop-off location with the boys.
