I have been involved with Information Governance for 25 +years (although I don't seem to recall it being called Information Governance back in the day). I was responsible for implementing the Data Protection Act 1998 provisions, and later the Freedom of Information Act into City of Wakefield Met District Council.I later to moved to Leeds City Council, initially to deliver a records management project, including the procurement and roll out of an EDRMs, but ended up designing and implementing a corporate structure for managing the disparate IG teams across different departments. I managed the Corporate IG Team, before later moving into a role to promote and market IG services provided by Leeds City Council, and to expand the Council knowledge into data exploitation and data ethics. Upon leaving Leeds City Council in November 2020, I joined Veritau as an Information Governance Manager, initially providing advice and support to our school clients, but I now coordinate support to our district council clients, and more recently our sport clients such as Basketball England and British Taekwondo.

  Veritau provides independent assurance services to councils and other organisations. I am responsible for advising four District Councils on Information Governance (IG) compliance, and provide support to the Data Protection Officers at two sports organisations. I am responsible for the development of training and e-Learning for IG, both internally at Veritau, and also to external clients. I also undertake some delivery of this training. Additionally I provide records management advice and guidance to councils and other organisations.I began my journey into IG at Wakefield Met District Council by helping to implement the Data Protection Act 1998, and then later leading a team to introduce the Freedom of Information Act 2000, before leaving to go to Leeds City Council to undertake a records management project. Whilst at Leeds I designed and implemented a framework for IG compliance, which was the basis for a later corporate model, in which I was a Professional IG Lead. This provided me with further experience on a range of data protection and freedom of information experience, together with Open Data and Data Ethics. During my time at Leeds City Council I also chaired the Yorkshire and Humber Information Governance Group and the West Yorkshire Information Management Forum.I left Leeds City Council in November 2020 and joined the Veritau Team in January 2021.
