I gained an overarching view of Trade policy developments in the WTO and fed into UK strategy. I supported the trade and economic team including reporting on meetings, liaising with the WTO secretariat, document management and logistics. Key responsibilities & achievements:• Quickly gained insights into trade policy, the WTO and international Geneva• Supported the UK Ministerial delegation at the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference• Supported the UK Ministerial delegation at x2 WEF Annual meetings in Davos• Delivered statements on behalf of the UK in WTO Committee meetings• Wrote reports on WTO General Council and other meetings for senior distribution• Worked with DIT teams in London on policy substance

This was a temporary cover position and gave a great insight to international science and Embassy operations. My role was to build and maintain links between UK/Swiss academia, research, funding and regulating bodies, to grow UK/Swiss science and technology cooperation. Highlights were arranging the launch event for a cutting-edge joint UK/Swiss research programme and reporting to seniors across government on a new multidisciplinary, international think-tank’s inaugural summit, which tied in with many HMG strategies. I also reported on other forums such as BioTech and Quantum Industry and made first contact with interested UK academic institutions.

I assessed the capabilities of scientific and engineering goods and information to be exported from the UK. Using a range of sources and consulting with experts where necessary, I was responsible for managing my own cases and providing succinct, evidence based advice reports to a cross-government panel which made decisions on licences. I presented to government seniors and had to defend my recommendations against reasonable challenge, and provide reasonable challenge to others.

Feltham hosts the UK governments' cartographic production centre and map library. I worked as a quality control analyst on digital map data produced by contractors. I was a contractor Point-of-Contact making me responsible for communicating feedback between the team and the contractors. I was also names policy lead in the team, deciding how we collected place names. I completed a 6 month leadership programme including a live streamlining project on making the team's workflows more efficient and I also presented at an international technical forum.

My role at Anesco constantly evolved allowing me to gain experience in a variety of business areas. I also became familiar with a variety of government incentive schemes including Green Deal, ECO & domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). I began in R&D and retained an element of R&D throughout my time there, keeping up with policy developments and informing management of any required actions. I moved into submissions processing, and later picked up contract review which required an eye for detail, consistency, accuracy and accountability. I was also responsible for reporting and record keeping.I gained an increasingly finance orientated role requiring knowledge of business models, financial procedures and financial software.
