Royal Marines
After completing an arduous 30 week Commando Course at CTCRM in Devon, I was selected for a specialisation as a Signaller. I attended the Signals course designed to train signallers in tactical communications for both land and amphibious operations. I joined Signals Squadron of the Cdo Logistics Regiment which was responsible for the combat re-supply of 3 Cdo Brigade in the field. Here I was promoted to Lance Corporal and deployed to Kosovo in 2000 and was awarded the NATO Medal.I then joined the Commando Helicopter Force (CHF) in 2002 I proved my earlier promotion be being known as "calm under pressure" during various deployments including the high Arctic. Here, displaying my leadership potential in abundance I was selected for further command and technical training. In 2003 I completed the Junior Command Course and the Class Two signaller course. Returning to CHF on successful completion, I deployed as part of a specialist two man Mobile Air Operations Team to Op TELIC 1 in Iraq. Taking on the responsibility to set up landing sites behind enemy held lines I was attached to the United States Special Forces SEAL Team 3 and as such became the first British Service man in to Iraq. My mission was to establish, control and secure landing sites for the pre invasion force but the initial sites were found to be unsuitable, while under fire from as close as 200 metres i prepared an alternate landing site and brought in multiple waves of aircraft which ensured the success of those first few days in Iraq. For this service I was awarded a Joint Commanders Commendation and the Iraq Campaign Medal. In 2004 I was again selected for further promotion ahead of my peers and passed the Senior Command Course and Class One signals course. Qualified to command a troop in excess of 30 trained Marines I went to Signals Sqn of the Brigade HQ. Here I deployed to Afghanistan seconded to J Coy, 42 Cdo. For this service I was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
