Beneath the ground at Heathrow a complex maze of underground services exist which are vital to the operation of the airport. When digging into the ground and working around these services e.g. fire mains, gas mains and high voltage electricity, there are potential risks for both the individual and the airport. If these services are hit in what is termed a ‘service strike’, this can at worst case result in death for those working around the services or closure of the airport.
