FounderCreation Mechanics 1992 - 1994Conducted research into innovation and machine learning based on genetic algorithms and genetic programming (GP). Used massively parallel algorithms to learn currency and equity trading rules. Designed systems that would automatically find inputs with the highest information content and strategies with the best out of sample results. Contributed to academic understanding by open sourcing my GPQuick toolkit, and by running experiments to test claims about genetic programming parameters. For example I was able to show that mutation and crossover produce roughly similar results, contradicting a more intuitive claim from GP originator Koza, and I coined the "defence against crossover" explanation for GP bloat and smoothing, and tied that back to observations about DNA. To arrive at these results I built a "Genetic Induction Machine" that ran parallel genetic algorithms at two levels - a GP that learned from data, and a top level that would run the lower level with thousands of parameters and test them for generalized learning effectiveness. Then, to find the computing capacity run this algorithm I bought a house in New Hampshire and filled it with single board computers.
