I was responsible for COWI's tunnelling work in UK and SE Asia, this is a large and highly experienced team of almost 300 engineers. I joined DAL in 1999 with the explicit aim of helping the owner develop a 15 man business into an SME that could undertake major UK and overseas tunnelling projects. This was achieved over a period of almost 20 years. This was a remarkable journey. Testimony to this is the success DAL had on CrossRail in London, ExpressRail Link In Hong Kong, STEP sewer project in Abu Dhabi to name but a few. I joined WAF for a period in the mid/late 90s. I worked in the main on two projects. Donellon tunnelling contractor suffered from a collapse of a sewer tunnel in Glasgow. I was appointed by them to develop remedial works and supervise the tunnel construction, challenging but successful pre excavation grouting scheme. Following that I spent a few months in Copenhagen seconded to COWI developing software to determine risk of damage due to TBM tunnelling.

I worked on a wide range of tunnelling and geotechnical projects globally. I spent 12 months in Ghana as the rock mechanics engineer at Ashanti Goldfields Corporation designing and supervising development drives, caverns at 1000m underground, deep shafts and tailings dams.
