Throughout my work career I have actively pursued opportunities to get the absolute best out of current work practices but also to learn and develop more efficient ways of delivering outcomes. This has become particularly relevant in the last few years as new technology becomes available seemingly every day. I am a self-taught VBA for Excel expert and with modern Microsoft Office releases, there is a host of functionality that can achieve most outcomes without the need for deploying new systems. My knowledge of new Microsoft tools such as PowerPivot and Microsoft PowerBI show that solutions to readily accessible data analysis, insight and reporting are not necessarily as far away as they might seem.My recent career took me into a very large secondary school as their data manager. I had no prior experience in working in an education environment but learnt these systems within weeks and was successful in deploying new ideas and providing analytical insights which helped improve learning outcomes. This along with helping to deploy a new management information system and create a new academic timetable further demonstrates my ability and desire to learn new skills and techniques and improve upon what already exists.I have since returned to work remotely as a specialist for Kent County Council’s strategic planning department where I have continued to develop both analytical and visual (mapping) solutions, in this instance via extensive ArcGIS training and more recently QGIS. For example, showing capacity levels at waste sites against planned new housing developments and forecasting this forward to see what the impact would be to 2031. This has led to improving strategic planning decisions made by the Council’s waste management service and in creating a case for seeking developer contributions from new developments. My work experience to date has resulted in many personal and organisational achievements, including the development and release of Kent and Medway’s Growth and Infrastructure Framework. I advocated that we had the skills and talents to produce the 2018 update in-house and through a great deal of hard work and overcoming numerous challenges I am proud to say that we succeeded in this ambition, delivering an excellent document. My current projects include further analysis in supporting the case for developer contributions for waste, compiling data across Kent for digital mapping purposes and using my digital skills and experience to assist in KCC's Covid-19 recovery planning
