I have over 20 years experience in Railway Operational Planning, including traincrew and unit diagramming, STP and LTP Planning, Timetable Development and influencing infrastructure schemes.I started my career working for a national FOC planning coal trains, taking weekly orders of power stations and turning these into a train plan.I then moved to Wessex Trains regional TOC in the south-west of England, where I produced traincrew diagrams and then becomes their Amended Timetable Manager, producing train plans for engineering works and special eventsMoving to Network Rail I then validated these train plans and supported the training and development of a new team. My role at CrossCouuntry Trains saw me as their LTP Manager, finalising the permanent timetable and writing unit diagrams for their Turbostar, Voyager and HST fleet. A key requirement was to use the timetable to improve revenue and this developed my understand of ORCATS and how the timetable influences reveune share. Using my wider planning skills I expanded the capacity of services during peak periods in the Birmingham area by amending calling patterns and re diagramming the class 170 fleet to make best use of available resources.I also developed a Train Planning Awareness course to aid the understand of the planning process and constraints face to the wider company, from the MD to traincrew and catering staff. My current role is Service & Technical Lead for the Rail Operational Planning Team at WSP. Working closely with key clients such as HS2, East West Rail and Network Rail my role has been to use timetabling to understand how the future railway in the UK will need to operate. This has seem me influence layout designs for key schemes such as Crewe, Nottingham, Sheffield, Oxford and many other schemes to support the operation of HS2 and EWR services on the national network.I am also very passionate about using my skills and experience to develop the skills of those entering the industry and helping train the next generation of operational planners.
