The optional modules chosen throughout the course of my degree reflect these practices. My self-managed MSci project focused on electro-chemical experiments with stable isotopes in a commercially run radio-analytical laboratory based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. This involved the remediation of irradiated soils via Electrokinetics from the Fukushima prefecture using environmentally benign materials; which has recently been published in Applied Geochemistry. I have also taken modules in Environmental law and management, engineering geology and understand the basics of phase I and II remediation desk studies. I have laboratory experience with XRF and ICP-MS analytical techniques, am familiar with the health and safety requirements of a laboratory environment (including the disposal requirements to meet COSHH regulations) and the use of personal protective equipment. I have experience with the mixing of chemical substances, using fume cupboards, volumetric pipettes, calibrating weighing scales, handling delicate samples/ specimens and a host of other associated laboratory activities.I also have background knowledge in sedimentology, structural geology, hydrogeology and the geophysical techniques used for logging and ground surveying. You will find me up to date with the most recent environmental legislative developments and capable of multidisciplinary practices. Show less
