In 2005 I was a member of the original steering committee that set up FC United of Manchester and after being elected and serving on the board I was appointed as the club’s first General Manager.FC United established itself as a competitive force winning four promotions leading to the club competing in The National League North, at Step 2 of the non-league pyramid.Off the field, the club broke new ground in a number of areas, including becoming the first football club in the UK to become a Living Wage employer; establishing the UK's first ‘pay-what-you-can-afford’ season ticket scheme and the first sports club in the country to launch a community share scheme, and the first such scheme in any sector to raise over £2M.In the 2015-16 season, club membership exceeded 5,300 members with over 2,300 season ticket holders, club turnover was in excess of £1M.
