My role built support for the RSPB and its partners, inspiring a world richer in nature through incisive communications.We covered everything from developing nature reserves to climate change, advocacy to international campaigning; from delivering on-brand stories through a range of channels to training and coaching colleagues and shaping future projects and strategies with staff and partners to senior management level.Together, we raised participation and support significantly… Show more My role built support for the RSPB and its partners, inspiring a world richer in nature through incisive communications.We covered everything from developing nature reserves to climate change, advocacy to international campaigning; from delivering on-brand stories through a range of channels to training and coaching colleagues and shaping future projects and strategies with staff and partners to senior management level.Together, we raised participation and support significantly for campaigns such as the annual Big Garden Birdwatch, Giving Nature a Home and the battle to save the European Nature Directives. I played a key role rebranding regional and national teams, leading to higher levels of membership and support.In focused, tenacious teams, we transformed landscapes from working quarries, farmed fields and forestry plantations to havens for people and nature. For example, bitterns are now breeding at Otmoor (near Oxford) for the first time since Napoleonic times and visitors enjoy a more meaningful, connected experience.I led communications for major RSPB partnership projects, such as the creation of a new £5 million visitor centre and experience at Sherwood Forest. I’m proud to say that planning permission was granted recently, so you can enjoy some fresh changes across Robin Hood's hideout.During a facinating spell in India, I supported a multi-partner, International programme to save vultures from extinction: www.save-vultures.orgAnd in Malta, I supported an inaugural 'Springwatch' campaign deterring hunters from shooting migrating birds, such as turtle doves, bee-eaters and honey buzzards: @BirdLife_MaltaManaging reputational risks and tackling complex policy and casework with colleagues provided a regular and welcome challenge – one day it could be fracking, the next day persecution of birds of prey.Many great memories. I worked with the chief executive’s team and on corporate projects, such as its ground-breaking Citizen’s Charter.I liaised with a range of local authority staff and external partners to deliver communications initiatives across the county. This included planning and delivering broadcast and press features, campaigns and turning tricky issues, such as social services cases, into positive advocacy.I played a key role planning, organising and designing internal and external publications using Apple’s QuarkXPress and working with the Cambridge Evening News’ editors and printing operation.And I had some fun promoting Hinchingbrooke Country Park’s operation and annual visitor programme.
