About Andy Acs

I'm a muti-armed Entrepreneur, Product Manager, and Consultant with a knack for turning complexity into clarity. I love every step of the product development journey and get high from context switching; I’m just as happy plotting out grand visions as testing tiny details, modeling data as designing experiences, and interviewing individual users as working with major partners. More than anything, I love the challenge of battling my own ignorances, working with people that are epically smarter than me, and having the opportunity everyday to build something great.I make hilariously small Angel investments into early stage companies, including GoodShuffle, Poppy, Gravity AI, and 5X.

  • Treater
    Product
    Treater Feb 2013 - Dec 2013
Treater began as a social/mobile application focusing on low-dollar "casual gifts" redeemable directly at the point-of-sale. I was brought on to help transition the business from a consumer-to-consumer model in search of a more scalable platform with a B2C focus. The result was a white-labeled referral marketing platform that enabled brands to acquire new, direct-referral customers through incentive based offers. I led the product development team in addition to playing a significant role in business development, analytics, pricing, and sales operations through the company's eventual acquisition.More than anything, I had the privilege of working everyday with a kick-ass team, I made mistakes, learned new things, deployed eight lines of code, and enjoyed every step of the journey. Can't beat that.

    Recruiting
    Livingsocial Dec 2010 - Jan 2012
    Washington, Dc, Us
As the space race was taking off, I found an opportunity to move back into recruiting and work on growing our sales organization. The goal was to grow from 17 to 250 by the summer time. We opened an office in Santa Monica, quadrupled the team in NY, and built a 100+ person entry-level sales training program at home in DC. One month I calculated that I personally had a hand in hiring .1% of the total US job growth. That was a really, really bad month for US job growth. As the company grew from 600-5,000 employees we faced some unique challenges: 60,000 unscreened resumes, hundreds of inactive open positions, and no requisition-approval system. I got to work on restructuring the workflows for our Applicant Tracking systems and a bunch of data projects to help us manage thousands of resumes we received every week.
  • Livingsocial
    Sales
    Livingsocial Jul 2010 - Dec 2010
    Washington, Dc, Us
Joined LivingSocial as Inside Sales #7 when we were nothing more an a no-name Internet hack company above the Chinatown Hooters. Spent my days calling small merchants in Omaha who used the s-word (scam) a lot. Learned the difference between a Keratin treatment and a Brazilian blowout. Unsuccessfully attempted to sell six sessions of laser hair removal for $99. While I loved talking to merchants and trying to help them with their businesses, I quickly realized inside sales wasn't especially motivating for me. Around 45 minutes before I accepted an offer somewhere else, we closed $183M in funding. Instant game changer.
  • Hirestrategy
    Recruiting
    Hirestrategy Jun 2008 - Jun 2010
    Reston, Virginia, Us
Full life-cycle recruiting for IT infrastructure and security roles. Found some pretty creative ways to initiate and build relationships with people much smarter than myself. Figured out what cloud computing was. Interviewed people for jobs that may or may not have actually existed. Sold the value of the NCI. Maintained retrospectively ridiculous gross margins. Became far too familiar with government contracting related acronyms. Mastered second tier buzzwords like "LDAP" and "Dynamic Resource Allocation" and "CD-ROM". Told Linux geeks that I use Slackware at home (I'm personally more of a Debian man). Tried to give people some hope and guidance during the worst job market in decades.
