Reporting directly to ACIO/VP of Strategy & Applications, I was responsible for managing and improving business relationships with our corporate business teams and our non-acute healthcare providers. In this role I provided strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the required information systems and technologies and ensure appropriate regional delivery and support of IT services. Collaborating with IT leaders across the enterprise I developed strategic and operational IT plans to ensure alignment with our business objectives. I served as the IT Director for the CHRISTUS Homecare, Hospice, CHRISTUS Dubuis (LTACH) and CHRISTUS US Family Health Plan organizations, managing the integration of the enterprise IT policies and procedures, healthcare information systems integrations, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. I was also the HIPAA Security Officer for these organizations. I managed vendor contracts for software & hardware licensing, including development of RFPs, negotiations and implementations. I successfully consolidated and renegotiated contracts with multiple vendors saving the organization over $250,000 (bottom line) during my tenure.

As the Regional Information Management Executive for the homecare, hospice and long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) and retail divisions, I was responsible for assisting in executing the Information Management vision and strategy as defined by the Office of the CIO; directing routine operation and delivery of information systems and processes related to Non Acute strategy, operations, support, maintenance, project management, and customer relationship management; managing budgets and contracts; delivering high quality, cost effective solutions to all levels of users; supporting the business goals and objectives for the IM Department and the CHRISTUS organization as a whole.The scope of the IM Non Acute Service Line includes Home Care, Long Term Acute Care, Long Term Care and Retail divisions across the CHRISTUS enterprise. I was responsible for working with Non Acute Senior Leadership across the CHRISTUS enterprise to provide strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of information management systems. Responsibilities include: collaborating with IT leaders to develop strategic and operational IT plans that are aligned with business objectives, directing a team of highly professional individuals that are ultimately responsible for hardware, software, applications, local area networks, wide area networks, telecommunication services, and all devices connected to these systems; quality management and customer satisfaction across the Non-Acute enterprise (including managed facilities), reporting on agreed upon service levels performance and develop new service level agreements in conjunction with the business owner’s requests and ensuring appropriate Non Acute delivery and support of IT services.

I managed the Tulsa-based IT support & development teams for approximately 550 users, including an international salesforce of over 200 field-based sales reps. I was responsible for integrating local and corporate IT policies and procedures, roles & responsibilities, culture and strategy. I was directly responsible for ensuring the company received IT support in a timely and cost effective manner. The IT team developed a local "sales and marketing database" system using ColdFusion and SQL Server. Upon my arrival, we had to re-engineer the entire system to accommodate fundamental changes to the business structure & sales team model. I managed local vendor relationships and negotiated/managed contracts. I managed the transition from generic server hardware to managed systems virtualized on IBM hardware, reducing annual costs, improving corporate integration and application performance all without having to increase local staff levels. Major accomplishments include:● Upgraded the LAN infrastructure to 1Gb to the desktop● Refreshed salesforce laptops with minimal service interruption ● Migrated to MPLS mesh network for WAN● Virtualized the local infrastructure using VMWare & IBM Blade Center● Developed a Lot Management System for the manufacturing & distribution center resulting in 98% reduction in inventory & shipping errors and ensuring recall compliance with ISO90001 standards● Implemented EMC SAN● Oversaw the migration from Lotus Notes to Outlook & Exchange● Negotiated Backup Datacenter lease for Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Plan● Negotiated implementation of EMC Avamar

I was brought in to stabilize and grow the IT department and infrastructure to support the increased needs of the department and their customer base of over 1,200 clinicians, physicians and staff. I built a team of over 20 people that supported all aspects of the laboratory and pathology systems for both patient care and research. I managed the data center and a 24x7 IT operations staff and suite of resources responsible for providing support for file and database servers, security, file/disk management, and an annual budget of $4M+. Major accomplishments include:● Upgraded IT infrastructure to current standards o Migrated old Novell file servers to Windows o Upgraded network switches to 100Mbs o Upgraded terminal servers supporting lab equipment o Implemented call center ticket tracking system, integrated with enterprise HEAT system o Migrated local tape backup systems to a centralized tape library● Upgraded the datacenter UPS with less than two (2) hours of downtime● Migrated lab environments to CITRIX terminals, saving over $50,000 in PC upgrade costs● Implemented a document management system for the Pathology File Room and Blood Bank, using Documentum and Oracle● Managed multiple Cerner LIS system upgrades, including VMS cluster replacement and storage upgrades ● Successfully managed two College of American Pathologists (C.A.P.) inspections resulting in exemplary reviews with zero deficiencies and/or recommendations

Over an eight-year period I held progressively more technically challenging positions with increasing technical and leadership responsibilities. I was responsible for defining technical implementation requirements for multiple applications, including the electronic medical record (EMR) project and other ancillary IT systems. I contributed to application development projects in the form of programming, scripting, coding, database/systems administration and implementation and support. I served as the technical lead on these projects:● Infrastructure o Microsoft Networking Technical Advisory Group – Chairman This group was formed to define the implementation strategy for Microsoft networking. o Systems Administration – Windows, AIX I implemented and managed the foundational Windows domain system for the enterprise I was the AIX system admin for several production & test systems o Document Management System Health Information Management and medical transcription automation● EMR Systems o CERNER PowerChart EMR – defined and managed the technical infrastructure, including client deployment strategies● Ancillary systems o Financial and administrative system for retail pharmacy o Order-entry, results reporting and nursing documentation for Inpatient and Outpatient o Case Management systemAcross multiple projects I was responsible for:● Defining requirements and documenting technical architectures, information flows, physical placements, hardware/software population and validation.● Coordinated connectivity, performance/capacity monitoring and on-going support of those environments● Coordinated stress testing of pre-production systems to ensure acceptable performance under load● Coordinated any deployment and follow-up user support issues with other IS departments● Monitored and maintained existing instances, evaluating and implementing new systems, performance tuning, disaster recovery procedures and vendor inspections

• On the Computer-based Patient Record (CbPR) project, served as the LAN Administrator and client technologist. • Worked closely with Cerner to aid in the development of their “Millennium” architecture electronic medical record project.• Served on the Information Technology Standards Committee.• Designed and implemented a central NT domain and was responsible for implementation and administration of that infrastructure. • Developed NT security standard for NT Server Installations for the entire institution.

• Increased my programming skills to include object-oriented development using Visual Basic and Visual FoxPro. • Developed the data structures to move research database to SQL Server 6.0. I exploited the ubiquity of the Internet to develop a browser-based inventory tracking and reporting application for Division of Medicine using Visual Basic, Access and Netscape Server on NT. • Expanded my institutional responsibilities as I brought together a group of independent NT Administrators representing almost every area of the hospital and chaired an institutional working group, “Microsoft Networking Technical Advisory Group”. Our primary responsibility was to define the role and direction Microsoft networking products, (Windows 3.11, NT and 95) within MDACC. The report was delivered to the Director of Communications and Computing Services and the CIO and continues to provide the standards for NT configurations at MDACC.

Responsible for implementation and administration of multi-departmental, multi-server Windows NT based LAN. Using FoxPro and Visual Basic, I developed data entry systems to support various research projects and integrated them into a customized health services research data repository for the Ambulatory and Supportive Care Oncology Research Project (ASCORP). I developed a series of programs to integrate data from foreign systems, such as Lab Medicine, Pharmacy, etc. The cumulative effect was the creation of an electronic medical record specific to patients seen in the Ambulatory Treatment Center (Emergency Room) and the ability to identify patients for the purposes of research protocol participation and historical study.

I served in the capacity of primary technical support for the Section of General Internal Medicine. I was responsible for maintaining a patient data collection system in ADABAS/Natural on an IBM 390 for the Section of General Internal Medicine. I developed a mainframe-to-PC data transfer methodology to integrate the legacy data with locally generated and stored research data. I wrote and maintained data-entry & research data management systems using FoxPro and SQL Server. I assisted with development of various modules of the hospital information system built on Shared Medical Systems (SMS). I worked with the central purchasing department to develop a standardized set of PC requirements to simplify the requisition process and reduce processing time and costs.
