At the very bottom of the worst real estate cycle in our lifetimes, I chose to co-found an international provider of real estate transaction services.I raised internal and external funds for start-up capital.At various times I was responsible for Accounting, Legal, HR, IT, Regulatory and Compliance.I hatched the idea to a start a title agency and expanded it to serve 35 states over the next eight years.Our company was a member of Inc. Magazine 5000 in 2013. This means we were one of the 5000 fastest growing companies in America over a three year period.We also were the recipient of Inc. Magazine’s Best Places to Work in America Award in 2016 and 2017 and Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Culture Award in 2018. These awards were based on anonymous employee surveys on topics including trust, management effectiveness, perks, and confidence in the future.

I created this position for the company, which had not previously existed. I managed the integration of five previously separate units with different managerial oversight into a single integrated international platform, including a legal and tax restructuring into a Dutch holding company structure.I had managerial and P&L responsibility for all operations outside of the United States, with over 150 employees in seven countries.Under my leadership, our unit grew revenue and operating profit 16% and 15%, respectively in my first year.I received regulatory approval for new underwriting partners and joint ventures in multiple countries.I led the acquisition and integration of UK-based real estate due diligence company with over $20 million in revenue and operations in the EU.

Prior to joining the Company, less than 2% of LandAmerica’s revenue came from outside its core title insurance business and it had identified diversifying this revenue mix as a long-term goal.I identified and analyzed strategic transactions, including acquisitions and joint ventures supervising multiple team members.I presented to the Company’s Board of Directors for final review and approval of transactionsI coordinated due diligence, using both existing company resources and outside service providers conducted negotiations, closed transactions, and integrated new businesses into current operations.During my tenure in this position, we closed over 30 transactions for over $300 million in transaction value for the Company, acquiring companies that increased non-title insurance revenue from 2% of total revenue to over 7.5%.I participated in the Company’s Internal Review Board, supervising startup opportunities, and providing oversight for multiple profitable new ventures.I negotiated and executed a joint venture with a competitor to restructure operations of failing business unit, turning losses of over $1 million per month into a consistently profitable entity.I negotiated and executed a joint venture with the Company’s primary outsourcing partner to facilitate a new line of business for the Company converting fixed costs to variable costs.

The partners of this start-up private equity investment company with over $100 million under management brought me in as their first non-partner professional. I coordinated, negotiated and executed investments in the manufacturing, service and media industries. I performed detailed due diligence and financial modeling on dozens of potential investments. I structured and negotiated financing packages with lending institutions, and monitored investments, assisting with legal, treasury and compensation functions. I also drafted private placement memoranda and communications to the firm’s limited partners.
