Sr. Developer
Lead developer/architect on a custom grantmaking system managing $100 million in giving a year. Influential team member for the entire foundation's technology team, providing leadership in dev ops, troubleshooting difficult technology problems, and contributing to grantee programs.I enjoy working on live systems with close communication with the users of the system. Automated builds and zero down time automated deployments are a must. I don't have time to wait for a maintenance window for a manual deployment. I lived through that in the 90's and have no patience for it now.The grantmaking system I work on is a asp.net 2.0-3.5 app with a heavy dependency on ajax services. I've planned the move from wcf to MVC controllers for ajax, and am in the process of leading the process of converting tens of thousands of lines of procedural javascript front end code to angular, before completing a full in-place transition to MVC.
Senior Software Developer
Developed a complete re-write of a naive Bayes classifier for scoring clicks based on web server log files. The engine worked in both ETL and web service transnational mode.In ETL mode it was able to handle hundreds of rules at a rate of 20,000-30,000 clicks per second. In the web service it had a single node limit of 6,000 requests per second using ASP.Net asynchronous mode.In order to hit performance requirements, I had to manage memory using dictionaries of structs, as objects created too much garbage collection overhead when process memory sizes grew to 16Gigs in size. After several years of improvements, the system had reached the point of needing it's own struct based string class which stored the full contents in a stream in UTF-8 encoding while maintaining pointers to the contents and several hashes of the string in a struct to reduce memory usage.
Sr. Software Developer
Developer with a focus on the opportunity management system. Maintained and upgraded the system through several product and asp.net upgrades.Made critical performance improvements to the dynamic business object loading components, including several assembly loading caches.Completed a round of high performance upgrades to the critical infrastructure of iMIS navigation and core components, as well as the CMS add ons. Built a plugin to record sql traces during NUnit runs to ensure a reduction from multiple thousands of database calls per page to a much more reasonable nubers.
Senior Developer
My first job involved a 2 part integration project with Dell's mainframe system, and service implementation partners. I built a connector component on top of RSC to access service status information from Dell's back end systems using C++ on top of NT 4.0. My teammate developed an XML service in VB5.0/6.0 before MSXML to get real-time status directly from Dell's service vendors.Transitioned to lead developer on Dell's helptech, the enterprise support portal at the time. I donned a program managers cap and spearheaded development of a tool to publish system build and warranty information on the web to enterprise customers.I eventually moved into the non-enterprise support.dell.com group and put the system and warranty information component through a series of upgrades. I started with a system that could handle thousands of requests per day with nightly reboots because of core library memory and connection leaks. After adopting XP development in the late 90's and 3-4 rewrites, I had a system in place that used RSC/piccolo, connection pooling with a custom thread manager to handle the library's esoteric thread requirements, IOCompletion ports, and months of completely ignored uptime handling millions of requests a day.In the meantime, I was a senior developer for support.dell.com a site that saved Dell $120 million a year in support costs, and was involved in core parts of the in-place migration from classic asp to asp.net.Even back then I was involved in various devops, and process streamlining projects. I wrote a unit testing application using the Microsoft scripting libraries that was essentially NUnit using VBScript to test asp sites, I wrote a session/cookie management library that shared login data between ASP.Net and ASP so we could transition between platforms section by section, and I wrote a heatmap based error reporting portal that allowed us to move from tens of thousands of errors per day to several hundred.
