About Andy Brunker

Leader of Customer-focused Technical Product Development and Support TeamsIntroduction I am a passionate leader, with a demonstrated ability to build effective and empowered teams. Having spent over 20 years in the In Flight Entertainment and Connectivity industry, I’ve had the fortune to work across a wide variety of products throughout their lifecycles. This ranges from concept / development through launch and in-service support, and into obsolescence planning. My early career was spent building a technical foundation in Systems Engineering, after which I expanded into Product Management. More recently I have been a part of many support leadership teams, including our global network operations team, and support engineering teams. Customer FocusI have spent a great deal of time working in the field alongside the multiple personas using the products I manage. This includes a year on-site at an International Airport alongside ground maintenance and flight / cabin crew, as well as global trips working with regional filmmakers and crew to experience their problems, their wants, and their priorities. Bridging the gap between customer expectations and development realities is often a challenge, but one I enjoy taking on. Technology EnthusiastI appreciate the opportunity to continue learning, and in my personal life continue to follow and adopt emerging technologies. As an aspiring Maker, I have learned 3D Modeling alongside 3D Printing to solve minor household part problems. Being a lifelong photographer, I have steadily adopted new technologies in image acquisition and processing as they come available. And most recently, I have adopted AWS-based Cloud services for management of my personal and household IT needs.

Listed skills include Systems Engineering, Avionics, Aerospace, Engineering Management, and 43 others.

Jul 2018 - Oct 2019

Senior Director Of Product Management

Foothill Ranch, Ca, Us

In a maturing startup environment, I was responsible for championing formal Product Management practices at RED Digital Cinema. Adapting my enterprise experience, I successfully introduced improvements in how the Product lifecycle is managed. While outside my traditional experience in avionics, I found the opportunity to learn new things and spend time engaging in another area of personal interest to be a risk worth having taken. In a small company, I was able to be hands-on in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Support. This enabled me to help make informed, data-driven, and collaborative product decisions and implement new programs that continue to increase the quality of RED’s products.

Jul 2016 - Jun 2018

Principal Product Manager

Irvine, California, Us

Launched a few years prior, this period saw Panasonic Avionics' most significant growth of Global Communications System deliveries. Feb 2013 - Jul 2016

Principal Program Manager

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Us

Having spent my career to this point in Engineering, this was my first formal role within the business leadership team at Rockwell Collins. Further upstream in the development lifecycle, I was able to apply my knowledge base in a way that could help eliminate technical and programmatic hurdles. Definition of initial business cases and cross-business unit approval required a higher level of strategic thinking, alongside effective communication and team-building skills. Returning to the Air Transport side of the business, I also coordinated with aircraft OEMs for both BFE and SFE offerability.

In this role I was responsible for direct leadership of an international team of Systems, Software, and Electrical Engineers, as well as domestic and international subcontractors. Beyond personnel, I was also accountable for financial and schedule performance, maintaining Earned Value metrics within 5% of plan.In addition to the deliveries focused on the customer, this period also saw a significant maturity of my leadership skills. Mentoring junior engineers, facilitating difficult administrative tasks, and reacting to both business expansion and contraction were all areas of growth during this time.

Jun 2006 - Aug 2011

Sr. Systems Engineer

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Us

Focusing on the needs of flagship airline customers, my assignment in this period was as an Airline Applications Systems Engineer. In this role I was responsible for requirements definition, test case generation and execution, and overall customer coordination for development needs within the company.
