sustainNU is a University-wide program that aims to engage students, faculty, and staff in reducing—and eventually eliminating—Northwestern’s contribution to climate change. In doing so, we will lead the way toward a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.• Integral part of a team that developed the university’s first Strategic Sustainability Plan. The Energy Solutions team at Connexion helps our clients in the Chicago-land area reduce their energy consumption through advanced technologies in the field of lighting, demand response, and renewable energy. We provide strong return on investment and sustainable solutions through the implementation of these energy efficient technologies

Within this role, I oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of solutions to sustainability challenges and work with a variety different businesses. Key tasks include:• Developed proposals and served as project manager for numerous client projects• Representative projects: Analyze impact of sustainable headquarters design on worker productivity; Resource Innovation and Solutions Network building for city of Phoenix, AZ; assessment of sustainability of public school system in nation of Albania; bicycle connectivity study in Phoenix, AZ; educational content development for sustainability activism platform (eEcosphere app)• Coordinated work between ASU Sustainability Scientists and Scholars with applied sustainability projects• Developed sustainability curriculum for graduate-level green building courses (Living Building Challenge)

Within this role, I learned how to successfully integrate sustainable practices into daily business operations which led Kohl’s to become one of the top green retailers. Main accomplishes and tasks include the following:• Managed numerous strategic sustainability projects, including: Electric Vehicle Charge Station initiatives (managed deployment at 81 retail stores nationwide); building commissioning processes (Re-Cx); retail lighting upgrades (re-lamping and ordering systems); and GHG reporting.• Attained LEED O+M Certification• Collected and analyzed data for 200+ LEED projects nationwide (existing buildings and new construction)• Organized, implemented, and tracked internal sustainability educational sessions

This internship provided me with a well-rounded view of corporate sustainability and led to my full-time employment as a Sustainability Analyst. Key accomplishments included:•Assisted in the launch of Kohl’s LEED for Existing Buildings Initiative, including developing Kohl’s LEED-EB volume prototype •Initiated internal and external sustainability outreach programs, including employee engagement programs, corporate farmers market, and associate-run gardens

As the first Environmental Strategies Intern at Kohl’s, I worked with the EPA to develop a comprehensive GHG reporting strategy and calculated their baseline measurements.
