I was the key person responsible for the overall running of the trial. This involved dealing with a wide range of people from several cultures and disciplines. My responsibilities included: writing protocols and amendments; organising and chairing meetings and teleconferences; site visits in Africa for monitoring and training; ensuring ethical and regulatory compliance; maintenance of the trial website (www.mrc.ac.uk/dart); line management of staff based in UK and overseas; supervision of the budgets for the trial and overseeing drug supply. I managed the close-out of the study, including the transition of ~3000 HIV patients to alternative clinical care. I had a key part in a detailed communications strategy for dissemination of the trials results. DART is closed but sub-studies and analysis/reporting continue. I also have other roles at CTU with particular involvement in HIV and other studies in Africa but also with UK/EU studies, databases and SOPs. Show less

I was mainly responsible for research on a new generation of HIV sequencing assays.

I had extensive responsibility for running the department. I was in charge of the provision of virological services to HIV patients at the Royal Free (around 1500 patients) and for other hospitals and clinics in the UK and abroad. I also ran the laboratory services for a number of clinical trials.

Worked on a project funded by the MRC AIDS Directed Programme. The purpose of the project was to evaluate novel chemicals of natural and synthetic origin as potential anti-HIV agents.

Kew. The main project I was involved with concerned the identification, purification and characterisation of chemicals from plants with particular emphasis on those possessing antiviral activity.
