About Andy Baines-Vosper

A husband and father on a mission to ask a million people for help to share the weight of my 24.7kg bag of worries that I carry on my shoulders. My goal is to show that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and that it can be life-saving.Throughout my life, I’ve carried various invisible heavy weights on my shoulders—from drug addiction and infertility to burnout, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Each time, I did so without asking for help until it was almost too late. My mission now is to prevent others from reaching that breaking point by normalising the act of seeking help.My 24.7kg bag of worries is a physical representation of the emotional burdens I have carried (and still do) and those that we all carry. This weight also serves as a reminder that Samaritans are there 24/7 to support those in need. I carry it almost everywhere I go—including running marathons—to generate conversation and connection. While the weight I carry is visible, many carry an invisible weight that is just as heavy, if not heavier. By telling my story and asking a million people to help me share the weight, I aim to celebrate the act of asking for help and make it easier for everyone to talk openly about their mental health and suicidal feelings without fear of judgment or shame.I want to show that asking for help is one of the strongest things a person can do—something that can change lives and lead to incredible moments of human connection. As a speaker on mental health and suicide prevention, I use my Bag of Worries, my career in mental health and suicide prevention, and my personal experiences to educate and encourage others to seek the support they need. I aim to create moments of true connection—where vulnerability is met with compassion, and where sharing our burdens leads to collective strength. I believe that when we open up, we not only help ourselves but also create a space that inspires others to do the same.In addition to my advocacy work, I serve as a Samaritans Volunteer, HIM Fertility Male Support Group Facilitator, and a Trustee for Inspire UK. In my professional role as a Senior Project Manager for Samaritans’ email service, I help oversee and enhance the service that thousands of people rely on for emotional support through the written word.Through my work, my volunteering, and my personal life, I am deeply committed to ensuring that nobody feels alone and that together, we share the weight, and together, we crush the stigma.Take care
