    The lipid binding protein apolipoprotein A-IV (apoA-IV) has the unique distinction in beneficially affecting satiety, lipid metabolism, anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation and insulin secretion, all of which are important for combating obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. My research has made substantial strides in understanding apoA-IV by: • Determining the first atomic-resolution structure of dimeric apoA-IV.• Proposing the first model of apoA-IV high-density lipoprotein (HDL).• Providing the first solution state envelops of apoA-IV as a monomer, dimer, and trimer.• Describing a unified mechanism of self-association, particle formation and maturation for apoA-IV. • Deriving specific mutations that enhance oligomeric stability and functionality. The structural and biophysical information resulted from my work will be essential in utilizing apoA-IV as a therapeutic agent in treating obesity-related comorbidities.
