Working in Nokia's offices in Berlin, I was part of a team that redeveloped the Ovi Maps Framework. Created a scalable CSS architecture which introduced CSS namespacing which vastly simplified the development and intgreation of interfaces across the framework's modules.Acted as CSS Guardian and helped module developers to integrate their interfaces into the framework. I created front-end coding standards, CSS architecture documentation and a workshop on developing interfaces for the new framework which I delivered to module developers.The new framework was benchmarked at more than 300% faster than its predecessor and dramatically simplified the process of developing and integrating modules.

Working on-site at Nokia's offices in Berlin, I was responsible for the creation of all HTML and CSS for the Good Things module on maps.ovi.com. Good Things was a user-generated content campaign promoting the use of Ovi's mapping technology.I also assisted in speed optimisations of the framework, compiling analysis on HTTP requests, CSS inefficiencies and image spriting possibilities.

Created a blogging and social media platform for XBox community representatives at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles. The platform was based on Wordpress and integrated a number of other social applications, including Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Kyte, and AudioBoo.

Helped translate creative concept for Lastminute.com's "Shoot Your Summer" webapp into user journeys and functional specifications. Acted as Technical Lead in briefing the 3rd party development team.

Helped Airlock to deliver the front-end for Virgin Media Shorts' competition site to very aggressive deadlines.

Short project helping a client to redesign the user experience for their online gaming site.Working with pre-existing demographic data, I conducted competitor reviews and helped pitch the project. I also held a stakeholder workshop that helped define the project vocabulary, highlight internal biases and promote usability in the proposed solution.My final deliverable was a UX specification that defined the site's information architecture, template wireframes, application modules and high level user journeys.

As well as developing progressively enhanced interfaces with valid XHTML, CSS, unobtrusive jQuery and Adobe Flash, I was responsible for mentoring our new Interface Developer.My role became more consultative, advising on best uses of technology to create user-centred products that support the business strategies of our clients.Over time my work started to revolve around 3 key themes; user experience design, promoting best practice and managing external suppliers.I have done a quite a bit of concepting for client pitches, educating clients and account team members as to the value of developing interfaces properly, and have created front-end coding standards and specifications for use both internally and by external suppliers.

I asked for the role of Interface Developer to be created as the agency's creative-led approach was often detrimental to the accessibility and maintainability of front-end code.As well as writing standards-based XHTML and CSS, my role included advising on the implementability of design work and assuring and advising on integrating front end code into .NET solutions.I also created various guidelines for interface development and promoted the value of good front end coding to other departments.

Initially creating table-based brochure sites, I started getting serious about CSS and web standards-based development in 2003 and worked with PHP developers to build dynamic sites before getting comfortable with Wordpress in early 2006.A few months later I was accepted into the Guild of Accessible Web Designers and redeveloped Designate's Flash-based based website into a content managed and accessible form using Wordpress. After sending a link to Designate's Creative Director I was offered a job as an Interactive Designer.

I provided various IT services for a number of clients in the UK and across Europe supporting Microsoft and Novell desktop products and networks.I also worked as a Change Analyst and a had a few stints as an IT Manager.Clients included Unilever, Brambles, MCI Worldcom, Astra Zeneca, Heidrick & Struggles, IIR Exhibitions and Air Partner.
