Lead for the Read My Lips campaignMain responsibilities• In charge of implementing the campaign on lipreading classes• Organising successful campaign events and actions, including mobilising local people to lobby their councils.Main achievements• Researched and wrote a highly influential report on the state of lipreading classes in England and Wales which has pushed lipreading up the agenda for many local authorities and the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. The report was also quoted on BBC Radio 4 and in Parliament.• Successfully lobbied a number of local authorities to improve their class provision through a range of innovative tactics, including protests and PR stunts.

Elected one-year Sabbatical Officer position. Main responsibilities included overall oversight of organisation's £5.5m turnover and managing the Union's democratic structures. Also acted as Chair of the Board of Directors, Trustee and Treasurer. Other duties included training for newly elected volunteers and recruitment of trustees and staff, including senior management.Main achievements included record turnouts for Union's elections, referendum and general meeting, securing £1m additional funding from attached University at a time of University cut backs, setting up Union's first Board of Trustees and planning and running a highly successful and innovative campaign against rising bus fares.
