Cutting my teeth in the unforgiving world of the 1990's sports industry instilled two passions which have become embedded in me, and at the heart of what I do; sneaker-love, and people.I'll come back to the sneakers because first, I want to tell you how my singular focus on people shapes my work. Leaving a comfortable corporate role behind in 2008, I made a brave and ambitious step towards realising my dream of starting my own business. The fast-approaching economic crash proved to be fortuitous, although at the time my fledgeling recruitment consultancy felt like a rubber duck bobbing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. However, those years of recession taught me many valuable lessons about focus and integrity, as well as decision making.Fast-forward to 2020, RoundPegSearch has evolved and grown. Our global client base has expanded to include fashion, sports, outdoor, automotive, hospitality and food & beverage. My mantra is 'make work better', and I've written three books on the subject, with another one due to launch later in 2020. Coming back to my other passion for just a moment; being a sneaker-head has been useful after all. Paying attention to small details, networking and negotiation are all skills learned in the sneaker-world. It turns out these are pretty crucial when it comes to people too. I've identified what it takes to make a successful hire, and we apply this unique methodology to deliver more than 96% retention rate over two years; far exceeding the average of 54%. I'm continually honing our methodology and have now launched our in-house platform, HireInsight, to seamlessly support our clients and candidates through the interview, assessment and selection process.
