Thinker External Advisory Board Chair
The Technology-Human INtegrated Knowledge Education and Research Program (THINKER) at Clemson’s Automotive Engineering Department (CU-ICAR) is a multidisciplinary, research-focused graduate traineeship sponsored by the National Science Foundation. PhD and master’s level students will work alongside undergraduate and technical college students exploring the results of integrating the human element with the digital manufacturing enterprise. These research projects will yield data to inform curriculum redesign across multiple disciplines and educational entities and enhance research across disciplines. The program employs innovative coursework in collaborative teamwork, manufacturing, human behavior and big data analysis in addition to multi-disciplinary technical curricula. Special workshops in career readiness and success factors, along with mentoring and coaching by industry participants, will ensure that students from every level have guided career planning. These uniquely qualified students will enter the workforce having established credentials, qualifying them to function seamlessly and effectively in the growing digital manufacturing environment. Industry participation is key to this initiative. Novel partnerships and prolific collaborations will arise from the intersection of industry, education and research resulting in a multitude of long-range benefits to all stakeholders. As the chair of the External Advisory Board, I am recruiting a top notch group of industry, government, and education leaders and bringing them together with the program leadership to ensure that THINKER is positioned to meet its goals and deliver the best possible leaders for the future of manufacturing.
