As project manager in Engineering Special Projects my service territory covers all of the Midwest and East Coast, including the Soo Line, DM&E/IC&E, D&H, and CMQ Railway. I manage large projects such as track construction, bridge replacements, crossover and turnout upgrades, intermodal and automotive unloading yard expansion, and much more. I've successfully lead projects such as the Shoreham Intermodal Expansion, Schiller Park Automotive Yard creation, Bensenville Yard expansion, as well as countless network capacity yard and siding projects all across the Midwest. These projects often start as a basic idea and my role is to take them from sketches to reality. I also led the CP portion of the CREATE projects in Chicago, reducing the traffic bottlenecks and increasing system fluidity through better interlocking plants. During its first year as a part of CP, I was sent to the CMQ Railway in Maine to assist with capital construction work at numerous remote locations during their busy integration period. I've lead the civil construction on our new border crossing inspection stations, projects that have sped up transit times and streamlined inspections by eliminating switching operations. I also handle all track design review and construction for Industrial Development group to ensure the customer projects are successful for both the railroad and the industry, whether they are a brand new shipper or an existing customer working on expansions. As well as all of this I assist the Passenger Rail group by leading the construction of major infrastructure projects such as St Paul Union Depot, Milwaukee's upgraded Amtrak station, Metra/CREATE, Amtrak expansion, and more.In addition, I've also been involved in emergency line outage recovery (floods, landslides, bridge outages, derailments, etc.) to ensure a safe and timely line reopening as well as site cleanup and restoration.

The job consists of a wide variety of railroad work from design to survey to construction inspection/management. The work is focused mainly on track engineering but also includes grade crossing and intermodal projects. The design aspect of the position includes a wide range of services. These include industrial operations, yards, mainline interlockings, commuter rail lines, and more. These are done using primarily AutoCAD and LandDesktop. Survey work varies from preliminary surveys all the way to final as-built surveys as well as construction staking. This also includes emergency services such as responding to derailments, floods, washouts, etc. The construction management work ranges from grade crossing upgrades to working on large mainline realignments. This work is on-site with inspections, dealing with contractors, safety enforcement, etc. so the railroads are assured that the construction is done right the first time.
