The business has a very strong online presence across Europe that continues to grow and offers unique product ranges through other channels, including the leading soft seating brand in education, Eden Learning Spaces. In January 2021, Comhar Capital bought into the Group with an investment that underpins the next stage of growth for the business and its stakeholders.

Bishop Auckland And Welwyn Garden City

Initially, I acted as a mentor to the MD of WV Associates, before being asked to become NED/Chair of this successful £7m+ chemicals, aerosols and abrasives group, based in Bishop Auckland and Manchester. I stepped down at the end of Feb 2013 to concentrate on consulting, having been involved for 6 years in total. I was then asked to consult for the parent Gilbertson & Page group, particularly on marketing and digital matters. The wider Gilbertson & Page group also includes a leading independent pet foods manufacturer based in Welwyn Garden City. I relinquished the role in late 2018 to focus on other work.

This was a response to a drive for increasing professionalism and market focus within the business and led to the recruitment of a top-class drinks industry professional as MD. With those developments firmly in place and a trade sale underway, I stepped down in August 2010 to put time into other projects.

Brought-in as CEO of this web-based export documentation start-up, funded by 3i, only to end up managing a build phase, followed by a 'clean' shutdown, as a result of stakeholder conflicts.

Executed Sage Group's value-creating strategy using eBusiness as a lever. This included integrations with the then-new online banking services for business, the building of Sage's first web-based services and repositioning Sage with City analysts, journalists and resellers. This made a major contribution to a reappraisal of Sage's valuation, reflected in a significant jump in share price and entry to the FTSE100.

A very successful period for the whole team, which saw the business turned-around with consistent revenue growth and EBIT moving to 15%. I had a busy international role at this tableware leader covering marketing, product development, product design and managing a 2 year turnaround of the US subsidiary.
