Initially Head Instructor of Fairlands Taekwondo, I took over Stevenage Taekwondo Club and merged Fairlands with it when the previous instructor died in early 2012. Since then the club has turned around from having ongoing late payments for hall fees with a handful of active members, to over 80 current members using an online system for their account management, fully matted area and financial stability (even though we operate with a non-profit ethos). Managed trips to Korea for students as well as team entry at competitions and dealt with local press.

Responsible for development, design and system administration automation with Civo Ltd. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), my duties include ensuring our globally distributed teams deliver on our pipeline of community led features as we build the next generation of truly cloud native hosting platforms. Communicating our technology strategy to customers and investors alike are a key part of my day, as well as engaging with industry press, podcast and interview hosts.I collaborating with the rest of the leadership team to help define and deliver on short-term goals and develop the longer term roadmap for the business. A key part of this is analysing feasibility, cost impacts and risks associated with the individual options.While I personally built most of our first release of Civo.com and the resulting API, using OpenStack as a core, more recently I've been more responsible for technical leadership, mentoring, planning and compliance. Ensuring we have a strong technical framework and best practices is of utmost importance in delivering this.My role is to manage and mentor the technical personnel, in order to multiply their efforts to deliver increased value to our customers through technical innovation. And to ensure with our like-minded board that we only take part in positive business practices.

Developing the next version of the main Which? homepage and product reviews in Ruby 1.9/2.0/2.1 and Ruby on Rails 4.0 (including migrating applications from 3.x to 4.0), using Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) with RSpec and Capybara, deployment to cloud servers configured with Chef and Heroku, and ensuring high test coverage checking using SimpleCov.* Defined the coding standards for Ruby on Rails within the department.* Defined requirements for the future of Rails development while leading a team of 4 other Ruby on Rails developers from a technical point of view (not responsible for them on a personnel/HR level), reporting in to the Head of Engineering.* Pushed through the release of Which?'s first piece of open source software, including a lot of liasing with their Legal Department, ActiveRestClient.
