Volunteered for position to work in an environment pertinent to MSc Air Safety Management thesis. Conducted assessment centre psychometric tests on candidates and made recommendations of suitability for employment. Managed throughput of circa 3000 candidates; ensured candidates of appropriately high standard contributed towards annual ‘into training targets.’• Validated with occupational psychologists, air traffic control aptitude testing battery and identified weaknesses in interaction between selection and training. Recommended improvements to improve synergy between the two functions. All recommendations accepted and actions ongoing to improve quality of ab-initio air traffic controllers entering training.

Ensuring the delivery of British military airpower at Kandahar Airfield to support the draw-down of British military personnel from Southern Afghanistan and assist the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan during the transition process. Key tasks included: the integration and safeguarding of British military air interests in a highly-dynamic, multi-national environment to ensure that both the tactical and strategic air-bridges functioned effectively; all operating procedures were safe and risks managed to an acceptable level for all relevant Duty Holders and, upon completion of the mission, all force elements were extracted safely and all aviation-related operating areas were correctly handed back to the Senior Airfield Authority.

Completed comprehensive safety assessments to provide assurance to military duty holders.• Identified significant airfield safeguarding infringement associated with instrument landing system, including non-existence of equipment safety case. Influenced stakeholders to accept significant risks posed and withdraw equipment from use. Advised the Welsh Government on regulatory requirements and action necessary for re-introduction of the equipment; these were accepted and work ongoing to provide an essential airfield asset.

Led team of four specialists to manage 30 instructors delivering training to circa 300 students per annum. Qualified (CTLLS Level 4) and highly experienced to deliver training in classroom and synthetic practical simulators.• Designed and delivered upgraded instructional techniques course. All changes implemented on schedule and produced instructors of much higher calibre who provided high quality learning experience for students.
