Noteworthy Projects: ATCO, Eau Claire Tower, Stoney Trail Transit Facility and Calgary Cancer Center During my time with Modern Niagara, I had several responsibilities that took me off the tools. These included managing all designs and prints for the Calgary Cancer Center, ATCO building, and Stoney Trail Transit Facility projects, and completing as-built drawings and HVAC drawings for projects. Often, drawings need quick redesigns to adjust for real-world scenarios. These skills allowed me to support projects being completed on time, required on-the-spot thinking, and execution to ensure clients received quality installation and design. As Lead Hand on projects, I was responsible for growing relationships with other trades, departments, and office and shop teams. In addition, I trained apprentices in how to properly read blueprints and safely work on tools.

Noteworthy Projects: SAIT Thomas Riley Building and Calgary International Airport - international expansionAs lead hand for both the SAIT and 15-million dollar Calgary Airport projects, I was responsible for completing as-built designs onsite, ensuring jobs were completed on or ahead of schedule while remaining on budget.People responsibilities involved effectively communicating with crews of 10+ individuals while outlining daily requirements and advising on solutions when problems occurred; building relationships with vendors while ordering project materials; productively working alongside numerous trades; and providing insights during weekly safety meetings and on-site training. A keen eye for detail was required for accurately measuring materials; welding systems within mechanical rooms, laying out and installing dust collection systems, and turning blueprints and accompanying components into accurate real world designs.

This required clear communication with apprentices and helpers to ensure daily tasks were met; completion of as built drawings and drawing new designs on prints when conflicts arose between design and implementation; and ensuring accuracy in measuring and ordering all material, hardware, and accessories for projects. I was also responsible for training apprentices in all aspects of their trade.When on and offsite issues arose, I was able to collaborate with team members and other trades to eliminate these issues as quickly as possible without compromising safety or design quality.

This also required attendance at all weekly site meetings alongside all trades involved in the project. In addition, I was tasked with training apprentices on all aspects of the job. Drawing on my ability to execute with fine detail, I was the Finisher on all projects - both as Foreman and Journeyman; expert in building mechanical rooms and specialty duct installation; and onsite pressure tester to check for air leaks in duct lines. Of note, I completed as built drawings as needed, along with creating drawings for specific systems that required unique solutions. In addition, I earned my confined spaces certificate while at Paragon, which allowed me to build and install specialized HVAC systems within confined spaces.
