Principal consultant for my own consultancy business - Compass Advisory Consulting (CAC). The aim was to assist organisations in pursing change in business models and investing in emerging technology in the power utility sector - furthering where possible the growth of Distribution Energy Resources (DER) and the ability of microgrids to enhance and grow within Western Australia.Examples of work have been:1. Development of Peel Business Park with Landcorp/Development WA2. Assisting Horizon Power's Tech Co in the development of their Microgrid controller,3. Developing Horizon Power's network planning guidelines,as well as assisting other clients in furthering their network connection agreements with Western Power.

To ensure that the Western Power Network is planned appropriately catering for Growth, Asset Replacement and Reliability drivers, as well as taking into account, Customer driven applications and changing consumer behaviour.To develop and maintain the network planning standards, asset functional specifications and trial new innovative technologies, to ensure that the network is planned, designed and operated in an efficient and effective manner.To produce high quality and accurate forecasts for peak network demand, energy consumption as well as network reliability to help build the 10 year network plan.

Acting branch manger for the Network Planning & Development Branch within the Network's Division in Western Power. Network Planning and Development Branch is responsible for the system planning and development of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). The branch delivers long term investment and network planning to meet the increasing demand on the transmission and distribution networks. Responsibilities of the branch include: - identifying the needs of customers, budgeting, scoping, seeking and obtaining approval for capacity investments for the network - provision of efficient solutions and support for major WA customer connections - establishment of enhancement plans to optimise network capacity and network - performance and making prudent network investments while meeting all legal, regulatory and budgetary requirements - management of Network System Load Forecasts to ensure the network is effectively maintained - working with internal stakeholders to promote a safe environment that ensures the safety of employees and the general public

Responsible for effectively managing the growth on Western Power's Distribution High Voltage Network through four dedicated teams of engineers. These teams are responsible for the development of long term and short term plans for the North Metro, South Metro, CBD and Country networks. In addition to ensuring on time connections of large customer loads and generations.Through these teams, the development of 5 year network development plans, with each project backed by a detailed planning report and business case, outlining:- need for investment,- options generation and analysis, leading to shortlisting of the most prudent investment decision,- Thorough risk analysis- accurate estimates and deliver-ability assessment of the preferred option- Compliance to the regulatory rulesResponsible in proposing and documenting network augmentation strategies, plans, forecasts and supporting analysis for the Access Arrangement submissions to the Economic Regulation Authority.Ensuring the safety and health of staff, including effective stress and fatigue management.Maintaining operation within both capital and operating budgets. Ensuring that the yearly budgeted approved works program is delivered through the service delivery arms efficiently.Providing mentoring and coaching (both formal and informal) to a number of professionals within western power.Leading and implementing change management strategies to enhance the network planning process, as well as the embedding of a joint planning culture within western power resulting in a more optimized approach of planning and executing planned network reinforcement projects.

Responsible for planning and development of effective distribution network capacity enhancementsto ensure sufficient capacity is available to connect new customers and supply normal load growth.

Manage a team of project managers responsible for the delivery of the Capacity Expansion works program for the perth metropolitan area. Also responsible for the delivery of the Summer Ready program of works, which are essential to the system reliability and security of the Western Power distribution network (for both country and metro areas).

Managing the complete distribution network reinforcement designs for western power. This included the capacity expansion, rural power improvement (RPIP), regulatory compliance (RC) and reliability driven (RD) program of works. Both internal and external design resources were utilised to ensure a high quality product was returned to the project managers to the agreed timeframe.

Senior Engineer for Major Projects North. Responsible for:Carrying out major customer funded design and quotations,Network Reinforcement projects for both capacity and reliability,Providing support to the leadership structure by acting in temporary vacant team leader roles,coaching and mentoring to new graduates and network trainee officers.
