Geographically we covered an area from East Africa to Pakistan, including all of the Middle East.As the senior BP leader in the office, I was responsible for day-to-day oversight of all these operations. I was also directly accountable for strategic business development in the region.In addition to the regular trading activities, the office manages three businesses: bunker sales in Fujairah, bunker sales and a terminal in Salalah and a gasoline terminal in Jebel Ali. For the latter two I was the BP director and provided business and strategic direction.I also conceived of and developed a Greenfield fuels import/export terminal in Iraq. A major change in corporate strategy for BP requiring significant networking and influence as the BP Trading business does not typically undertake proprietary projects, especially in a country as difficult as Iraq

Working in London, Caracas and Aberdeen I shifted from a pure technical role into leadership and commercial/business management. The initial experience of managing contractors in a project role with significant HSE issues provided an invaluable base for moving into managing the commercial and businesses issues.
