In my spare time, I volunteer for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride, an LGBTQ+ charity that I am deeply passionate about. This role involves working with all aspects of the LGBTQ+ community, and it is one that I am very proud to undertake. Despite being a volunteer position, my responsibilities are extensive and akin to a full-time job.Key Responsibilities:Media Relations: Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with local and national media outlets to secure press coverage.Content Creation: Supporting Swindon & Wiltshire Pride’s social media team in creating content, promoting our events and activities, and day-to-day management, helping to engage our diverse audience with compelling content.Writing and Editing: Crafting high-quality content in various styles, including social media posts and press releases, while ensuring the tone aligns with our goals as a charity.Social Media Management: Planning daily content using Hootsuite, tailoring it to suit the format required for each social media channels, and managing our social media inboxes to ensure timely and appropriate responses.Team Management: Distributing workload to the communications team and overseeing their activities to ensure cohesive and effective communication strategies.Press Releases: Writing regular press releases and submitting them to local and national media outlets to maximize our reach and impact.Radio Interviews: Engaging with local radio stations to conduct interviews, effectively communicating our Pride messages and core values to a broader audience.This role has allowed me to hone my skills in media relations, public relations, content creation, writing, editing, and social media management. Coverage has included live interviews on BBC Wiltshire and regular pre recorded interviews on local and national stations including Heart and Greatest Hits Radio.It has solidified my passion for this field and my desire to pursue communications and media going forward.
