My research focuses on the efficient conversion, transportation and use of electrical energy. Research on energy conversion looks at efficient utilization and the analysis and development of novel electrical machines and power electronic converters. I am particularly interested in areas related to renewable generation and its impact on electrical systems. Considering large scale integration of renewables, my research considers large scale scale grid integration, including impacts on system inertia and dynamics, dynamic line rating and energy storage. I am also conduct research addressing the role of renewables in microgrids, both as units within a conventional system and as isolated systems for remote communities.As Head of ECE my focus is on enabling our faculty, staff and students to succeed in the pursuit of quality of research and learning. Professionally, I currently serve as the Vice-President of IEEE Industry Applications Society. I have been member of the Executive Board of IAS since 2016, as Member at Large and then Publications Department Chair. I am a member of the Steering Committee of IEEE JESTPE and IEEE Electrification Magazine . I have been Steering Committee Chair for both IEEE ECCE and IEEE IEMDC conferences, and held multiple roles in ECCE including General Chair in 2017 and General Co-Chair in 2015. I served on the executive of the IAS Electric Machines Committee from 2012 to 2019, in the role of Chair in 2016 and 2017.
