From an early age I have always been interested in how stuff works. As a kid I would carefully take things apart to learn their secrets and then do my best to repair them. This grew into a love of all things mechanical.I began my engineering journey by joining the British Army as a vehicle mechanic in the REME. It was a natural choice for me, and I really enjoyed being tasked to repair everything from generators to battle tanks. I got to work all over the world in a variety of conditions and this really developed my engineering and leadership skills and gave me an adaptable, can-do attitude that has led to multiple promotions and moved me into management roles.As an Engineering Manager I have used my years of experience to train and mentor my team, passing on my desire to discover how things function and helping my team develop their own skills. A large part of my role is ensuring everyone operates safely, this pushed me educate myself with IOSH Health & Safety training and led to me being the department lead for SHE.My technical knowledge and experience were demonstrated when I deployed as an engineering manager to the Baltics in direct support of the NATO mission in Estonia. My forward-looking approach to workload and planning saw my team provide the highest consistent equipment availability statistics and best combat effectiveness on record as we withdrew from theatre. As my time in the Army comes to an end I am looking for my next challenge. Either as a Manager, Engineer or SHE advisor using the NEBOSH training I am attending in July, Id love to find a role where I can use my experience and qualifications in leadership and management to help grow a business and positively influence the company.
