VocaLink runs, maintains and services the technical infrastructure that processes automated payments on behalf of Bacs; on a peak day 99.3 million transactions were securely processed through our data centres. They also process over 95% of UK monthly salaries with 85% of the total UK workforce paid by Bacs Direct Credit. As part of the Platform Techincal Architecture team, I design and bring together the technical requirements of a project to form a HLD (High Level Design) that allows the build team to work from. I have to ensure that the chosen technologies have been tested and adhere to VocaLink's stringent testing requirements before moving into production. Work closely with database, middle-ware, network and storage architects to ensure all aspects of the HLD have been incorporated.

My role within CEL has grown from a traditional System Administrator / DBA position to more of a DevOps role. Whilst still performing the functions of a System Administrator ensuring that production systems remain operational, I also provision a large number of environments of various operating systems and technologies for our growing user base. The majority of these requests are fully automated, but there are occasions where additional scripting (bash/ksh) has been required to further enhance the service provided. Completed a project to deliver a new virtualization application that is being rolled out to 5000+ employees world wide. Since it's birth ensured that all the key features and fundamental requirements were included within the specification. Worked closely with the development team and key stakeholders of the project, completed QA and UAT and the system is now in live in production.Key Skills:- - Provisioning environments for the Support and Development groups to utilise to replicate and resolve customer issues. - Perform System Administration functions across all platforms within our infrastructure. - Work with Storage Appliances (NAS) to create, configure and monitor numerous filesystems used within the various environments. - Build out new environments using a wide range of visualization technologies ranging from VMware, VirtualBox, OVM, Sun LDOMS, IBM LPARS. - Act a Team lead, SME and Mentor for the team.- Be innovative and develop new ways in which the group can provide additional resources to the user community.

Support Engineer working on customer issues with the Siebel product line. The main areas of expertise that I work within are: Siebel Server Installation, Siebel Server Administration, Performance, Security, Backup and Recovery. My role is very diverse and covers a multitude of applications from our own Siebel CRM application, to 3rd party applications that we interact with eg. DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Web Servers, Java, WebSphere Application Server and security servers. I regularly consult with customers (both on and off site) on their proposed IT architectures solutions. This can range from Siebel Server configurations, WebServer configurations, database design, storage, clustering, and high availability. I will also often be involved right through to the implementation stage when a customer will go live. Although the Siebel CRM application is primarily Windows based, it also runs on a number of UNIX systems. As well as that, nearly all of the applications that I use are cross platform, so using the experience and knowledge that I gained from my time at IBM, I naturally slotted straight in to the UNIX side of the business working with the applications on AIX, Solaris, Linux and HP-UX. I also heavily use the different versions Microsoft Windows (Win2K, Windows2003 and XP). We started to use Microsoft Virtual Server which I was involved with in setting up within the EMEA Services department. My responsibilities involved providing telephone/email/site support for our clients. Most of the work involved was problem determination, and quite often involved a number of different IBM products. In the last 9 months of my time at IBM, I was managing the newly created IBM WebSphere Support Team. Due to the line of business that of some of our larger well known high street banks and retail outlets are in, I regularly had to meet very tight deadlines as failing to do so would have huge repercussions for both IBM and our customers. For potential program defects, it was always important that I gathered the correct information as quickly as possible ready to pass to our developers in the US when needed. There are several products that I used on a daily basis. My skills also include: Shell scripting, AIX installation (including NIM) and configuration, Booting problems, AIX Performance problems.I also went to customer sites providing a technical consulting role. This would include such things as providing suggestions on how a customer could change their IT architecture and business practices (performance/Bakup and Recovery through TSM) to improve the day to day running their business.
