Websites were mostly a geeky endeavors that weren't close to main the stream — yet. The wave was beginning to rise and I was ready to jump on my board.I started selling LCD projectors and other audio visual products to education and government accounts door to door in Arizona. After a year of lugging around equipment for customer demos in 110 degree July days to customers who couldn't afford what I was selling, I thought there had to be a different way.A couple years earlier, I'd been fooling around with building websites. So, I decided to create a simple one-page website with the company logo and a handful of products and a phone number and email address. In a month or so, to my complete surprise, I was starting to get calls and emails from people around the world. Heck, one guy in Zimbabwe wanted to buy these products! This was before the Nigerian money-scams! He was legit.Light-bulbs started going off around my head. Let's start a direct sales company of audio-visual equipment and supplies. In a little over two years with just three employees, I grew Projector Superstore from nothing to $12 million in annuals sales. My responsibilities?► Company naming► Company branding & identity► Website design and architecture (ASP)► Database design (SQL)► Business Development (I sold over the phone all day)► Website maintenance (I update the website on weekends and at night)I was a video pioneer too. We started created little tiny stamp size product demo videos for our website — before there was streaming services.After a falling out with the guy I started it with I decided to move on to other things. That was a valuable lesson for a young guy too. Make sure you understand who you are working with and never take less than you're worth.Projector Superstore is still alive and kicking today. I'm proud to say I'm the one that brought it to life. -
